Blue Sand

The last few days we've been stuck inside due to late April snow advisories and frigid temps, so we decided to get creative - blue sand, shovels, dump trucks, and excavators.  We laid out a giant tablecloth, filled a plastic bin with Crayola's blue sand, and threw in some of their digging toys.   

They were very serious about their castle building.  I kept saying, "boys look up here and smile."  Sawyer would say, "not yet mom, I'm still working."  Now that it has warmed up again, the "sand box" is outside :)



Strub Visit

Grandma and Grandpa Strub came to visit last weekend.  We had a great time grilling out, going to the carnival for the Penn State blue white game, and playing t-ball in the backyard. 

We got the boys cool cupcakes to celebrate Spencer's birthday with Grandma and Grandpa.

The boys loved the rides and games at the carnival.  Spencer's favorite ride was the truck track, and Sawyer loved the bumper cars.

 We also got to try some fun carnival food - nachos, smoothies, and deep-fried oreos!

Love you, Daddy

The boys giving Derrick goodbye hugs before he heads off to work in the morning.  Derrick had a few crazy days last week requiring him to be gone well past the boys' bedtime.  Each morning the boys' goodbye got a little longer because they knew they wouldn't see him again until morning.  Thankfully, the crazy schedule only lasted a few days.

Round 3

Poor Spencer has pink eye again.

"Spence, are you ready for your eye drops?"
"No!"

And then the battle begins :)

Boys' Room

The boys are sharing a room!  As part of Spencer's birthday weekend we moved Spence in with Sawyer.  The boys have asked before if they could have sleepovers in eachothers' rooms, so they were very excited to make it official.

Spencer's old room will become an office/baby room.

We celebrated Spencer's birthday yesterday because Derrick was able to get home a little earlier than normal.  The original plan was to have our friends Seth, Ashley, and Patrick over for dinner and cupcakes, but poor Patrick woke up with a fever.  So, it ended up being just the four of us, but that was nice too considering last year the four of us weren't even in the same state on Spencer's birthday. 

I asked Spencer if he was excited to have lasagna for his birthday dinner and he said, "No, apple jacks!"  At least the sports themed cupcakes that Sawyer and I made were a big hit :)

 

Little ears

We recently took down the bike rack that had been on fence of our back patio.  It was constantly a source of worry for me while playing outside because the hooks were right at the boys' eye level, and I was waiting for the day one of them would fall into it.  The rack must have been up for a while because the wood behind it missed didn't get stained with the rest of the fence. 

Sawyer looked at it after we took it down and said, "hey mom, that looks like the cross Jesus died on to save us from our sins." 

Sawyer has a tough time listening when I tell him not to put 8 fruit snacks in his mouth at once, or not to somersault off the back of the couch, but it is nice to know that the important things stay with him.
